In  Signs…On, Of & From The Road I drew attention to Hugh’s upcoming Antique Faire in Petaluma.

I have been up half the night  trying to find Petaluma’s “Kentuky” street using all the resources of the Internet.

Alas, I failed.

There ain’t no “Kentuky” street in Petaluma. I’ll miss the opportunity to see Hugh Laurie…

Signs…On, Of & From The Road

Lately I have been engaged in organizing my photo archives…trying to inject some order in the 26,000 photos (plus or minus) in the current inventory. It is a bit of a diversion from my ongoing “Faces & Profiles” photo project.

In going through the files, I took note of some of the unusual signs we photographed as we traveled around the country by motorcycle or van.  The technical quality is not always the best as many were shot through windshields or from the back of a motorcycle. I have selected a few from past trips as well as from recent adventures about town for your amusement.

Before turning you over to the slideshow, I want to take a moment to remind you of Hugh’s Antique Faire in downtown Petaluma…

Diving from Petaluma's Balshaw Bridge is prohibited! Really? Did somebody actually try to do it?

Missing–One Eye in the Sky?

Camera lens falls from the sky in Petaluma!  Fortunately nobody was injured…

I checked my camera gear and everything is still in place.

The press release from the Petaluma Police Department tells the story…

Thursday September 15, 2011, 9:04 AM
Petaluma Police Department

Advisory: Camera lens falls from sky

Police Administration, 969 Petaluma Boulevard North, Petaluma, CA 94952
(707) 778-4372 Fax (707) 778-4376
DATE: September 15, 2011

Report Number: 11-4405

Occurred Date and Time: Friday, September 2, 2011 at approx. 4:05 PM

Incident: Camera lens falls from sky putting hole in roof of a house

Location: 300 block of Walnut Street

Summary: Officers reviewing a mailed in police report yesterday were alerted to this incident. Petaluma resident Debbie Payne reported on September 2, at approx. 4:05 PM she heard a loud bang inside her house. She went outside to investigate. Her next door neighbor also heard the noise and was outside. She found an approx. 9” hole in her roof and a damaged Canon camera lens lying below it. The lens had traveled through her roof and skipped down the side of her house damaging two screens, then struck the ground. Payne did not see any aircraft in the immediate vicinity. Payne said an estimated repair bill from a local contractor was $4600.00. The officer assigned to the case is following up on the serial number on the lens, contacting the FAA, and the Petaluma Airport. Payne was concerned because she lives near an elementary school and that no one was injured from this falling object.

Labor Day…Time Out!

This is as good a day as any to announce that I will be taking a break from blogging on this site. I am currently working on a photo project that has been in the making all year.  With the exception of a Martian spaceship landing on Petaluma Blvd, I intend to remain focused on the project until it is finished…or I am just sick of working on it.

For now, I will close with this line from Chocolat…

“The winds spoke to Vianne of towns yet to be visited… friends in need, yet to be discovered…and battles yet to be fought—but now by someone else.”
