Lucchesi’s Still & Stagnant Waters–Redux

On July 12, I published photos and comments on the sorry conditions around our Community Center and the Lucchesi Pond. (Click Here)

On July 25, I noticed that the fountains were finally in operation after being out of service since last winter…Publication1

I can also report that the level of duck & goose poop on the sidewalks has once again been reduced to “manageable” levels.  Ducks & geese being what they are, there is always going to be some poop for pedestrians to navigate.

Huzzahs to the City for bringing this to pass in these tough budget times!

However, the pond is going to require ongoing maintenance and that will be a challenge in the months ahead.  The debris & algae build up is significant…

Obviously, the challenge is still before us…

  2. My son goes to Cherry Valley and we are in the midst of a “family field trip” project, in which we had to collect two water samples from locations around Sonoma County.
We collected one of our samples from the pond at Lucchesi park.
I have to say that we were dismayed by the state of the park that day. There was a shopping cart IN the pond, and empty booze bottles, as well as trash, all around the pond.
The bird doo is at least a “natural” thing, and has to be expected with such a high concentration of birds on the pond, the trash, however, well, let’s face it, people should know better!
There was a tremendous amount of trash around the “drain” on the pond, as well as some rather disgusting remains of dead birds. I counted at least 4 decomposing large bird wings, which looked to be from geese, because of their large size.
I am pleased to report, however, that the shopping cart, and much of the trash, was gone on a subsequent visit.
I am disappointed that some people think it’s fine to litter. I just don’t get that kind of thinking.

  3. Lucchesi has had it moments, of that there is no doubt. Going forward, the budget situation is not going to take us in a better direction. Your comment has refocused my attention on Lucchesi and I will put together a shopping cart/trash article in a week or so.
